I may be able to get access to resources to build what we need in scale,
if we reach that point.
Cool..Offshore contacts? Bitworks has production facilities now up to
about 300 or so boards/month but after feburary when our new
equipment get here that will increase to about 3000 - 4000 /month.
Any more than that you just about have to go offshore to stay
competitive.

Can you provide some pointers to the chipsets you've found?
Chipset (singular) I don't rember where I saw the DAA stuff but the
ambient chips have the DAA built in.

Where does the crosspoint switch come in? Asterisk does the switching in
the PC. We just need to be able to read in the stuff with DMA, I/O, or
whatever.
Ah.. I asked this earlier but I guess I misunderstood your answer.
Well that makes it lots eaiser.
Does this mean that I can go and get a multi-channel A/D D/A card
with some Digital IO that runs under linux (or write a driver) and
hack some phone interfaces to it and blamo PBX?

Oh, no, I wasn't looking at that many boards hehe.

I wonder how much cheaper we can get it without the modem firmware? V.34
and V.90 are probably rather expensive.

Well, sure, but that's not as easy as it sounds. Oh, and be careful what
you put on Ma Bell's telephone lines. You might want to try pulling some
lines off something else before you risk tearing up your phone company ;-)
