Adam, for future use, send mail to the list, not owner-asterisk, as only I
receive tha mail. Adam is right wit respect to the winmodem stuff, but
the Rockwell non winmodem chipsetis mostly supported -- but with a big
problem... The chipset appears to be only half-duplex... Leaves some
imoprtant problems... But if you're wiling to just lisen, it works
already...

I'm still a little confused about how this PBX with asterisk thing works.
Let me see if I've got this straight.
1. I set up a Rockwell voice modem to handle the incoming calls.
If you mean the Winmodem support, it is not functional yet.~

2. People can dial extensions and leave messages in voice mail
My problem is: how do I hook up the local extensions?
Do I need a Rockwell voice modem (or any modem) for each phone? so as to
allow them to pick it up and get a dialtone or call into the server and get
their messages.

Is there a way to do this with sound cards or something?
Yes, there was just an announcement that a full duplex OSS supported card can
be used as an extension with the latest version. Many OSS/Lite drivers are
not full duplex however, often you will need to purchase the commercial
($20) set of drivers. I haven't seen mention of using the ALSA drivers
with Asterisk.~
