3G video do not use H... (H263 or H245) protocols only AMR video conversion (transcoding) is required.

Subject: RE: [Asterisk-video] Asterisk and video contents for 3G network
Have any one test an Asterisk throw a 3G gateway (constuctor,
reference) ?
I have made some test calls against some 3G video gateways, they are much nicer in the h245 negotiations and don't complaint with slight differences in the order of the messages.
Quote:
How to you generate the video contents to pass throw the 3G GW (tool
to manage the video files .h263)?
The encoding, bitrate and timing seems to be very important to have a
good quality on the 3G phone... how control this parameters ?
Currently we don't have transcoding capabilities in asterisk for video (and I don't think we will have it in the near future) the h263 should be optimized in the source for 3G. GSM Amr need also to be supported, at least be able to pass trough (I have seen many phones supporting g723 but I think you can't grant that all terminals support it).
Greetings
Sergio

I've pretty much implemented my 3G gateway using Asterisk.
I can currently handle H223 annexe A and B with Golay, AL1 and AL2 with 16bit CRC, H245 , AMR-NB in if2 format, + H263 qcif.
I need to do some fixing to make it clear.
I could eventually transcode the AMR-NB using ffmpeg but that wouldn't let it be LGPL anymore and wouldnt be able to implement it insize chan_zap.c but if I don't decode the AMR, then the SIP phone behind has to be capable of handling AMR-NB...
If someone wants some info, you are welcome!

Hy
My name is Adrian Lazar. I'm programmer. I work a lot with asterisk and I'm
interested on working in a video conference module. It is something what is
done? I read that you are change the meet me application to make it working

Hi Philipe.
3gp and 3gp2 are NOT video codec. there are ISO format of media files like .avi
In the 3gp file, you have the audio part that is either h263 or AAC, and the video part which is h263 or MPEG4 ( AVC)
so those information as the ISO describes it are writen inside the file.
Some phone don't have the capability of decoding MPEG4. so if you give them a 3GP file with MPEG4 codec for the video, they WONT play it...
the codec that could be used for the audio are AMR-NB (up to 12.2kb) mandatory, AMR-WB, g.723.1, AAC...

I6net is goging to publish this week a new opensource video conversion tool :
FFasterisk is a free video converting tool for Asterisk PBX. This software is
available under the GNU General Public License (GPL).
FFasterisk is a powerful video converter, which can convert video formats
including MOV, 3GP to Asterisk (H263 and WAV) and vice versa. FFasterisk is an
application using ffmpeg's features. It currently carries out the following
tasks:
- Audio decoding form a video file to WAV/PCM file format
- Video encoding form a video file to H263 asterisk file format
- Audio/video encoding form video asterisk files (wav+h263) to video file format
- Codec and RTP parameters can be cusomized (for SIPphones or VOIP providers)
This tool will be able to generate video contents for asterisk (to add video
clips *.h263 for the asterisk VoiceMail application for example, or create new
video services for asterisk).
It was tested with the SIP Video Phones WengoPhone and Kapanga.
We need contributors to improve the tool and add new encoding profiles for more
Sip Video Phone or 3G equipements.
i6net team.

3G H324M has H263 (profile level 0 I think) and gsm amr as mandatory codecs.
There are also terminals that offer g723 and MPEG4 support.

Can you confirm that 3G (H324M) handle the video with H263/H263+ codec ?
If Asterisk could play video contents, this should be in H263/H263+/H263 format/codec.
Selon Ramtin Amin <keytwho@hotmail.com>:
Quote:
I've pretty much implemented my 3G gateway using Asterisk.
I can currently handle H223 annexe A and B with Golay, AL1 and AL2
with 16bit CRC, H245 , AMR-NB in if2 format, + H263 qcif.
I need to do some fixing to make it clear.
I could eventually transcode the AMR-NB using ffmpeg but that wouldn't
let it be LGPL anymore and wouldnt be able to implement it insize
chan_zap.c but if I don't decode the AMR, then the SIP phone behind
has to be capable of handling AMR-NB...
If someone wants some info, you are welcome!

Currently we don't have transcoding capabilities in asterisk for video
(and I don't think we will have it in the near future) the h263 should
be optimized in the source for 3G. GSM Amr need also to be supported,
