i use Kanotix kernel linux 2.6.18-1 and asterisk 1.4. actually i installed app_mp4 and seems work correctly with some warnings => 'redeferencing type-punned pointer will break strict-aliasing' while compiling asterisk+app_mp4.c and i got both app_mp4.so and app_mp4.o. i made extension in dialplan pointed to 'mp4save' then i got this following errors:
<------------>
-- Executing [9000@extenmp4:2] mp4save("SIP/2002-081f6fc0", "/tmp/asterisk/save.mp4") in new stack
/usr/sbin/asterisk: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/asterisk/modules/app_mp4.so: undefined symbol: MP4CreateEx
[5]- Killed /usr/sbin/asterisk -vvvvvvv -ddddd -gc
[7]+ Killed /usr/sbin/asterisk -r
now i am trying to reinstall asterisk to 1.2 but i got this following errors:
In file included from chan_phone.c:40:
/usr/include/linux/ixjuser.h:351: error: expected ‘:’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘}’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘*’ token
make[1]: *** [chan_phone.o] Error 1

make: *** [subdirs] Error 1

The app_mp4 module is only compatible with asterisk 1.4.
The problem you've got with the undefined symbol seems to be with mpeg4ip wrongly installed in you system (old version still installed?) as I've already told you in a private mail.
