I had my wife do a few logo ideas this morning... please write back and
let me know which one(s) you like the best. (I promise I won't be
offended if you don't like any of them.)

Wow your wife got some talent. I wish I had someone to do GFX for me.
Just something u have a skill at or not. Personally a circle is about my
level of skill.
I like the blue 1. At least I think blue but I am color blind so don't
know for sure.

I have little to no preference on colors. I prefer the font in the first
version. I prefer the asterisk in the first to the second, but would
prefer a rounded version similar to the astricon logo. Possibly if
Digium would like, we could get permision to include the asterisk logo
from their sites as the "o" above. Possibly with the asterisk name still
below it and move the "User Documentation Project" to a 3rd line.
I think with that kind of integration of the official logo, there would
be no chance of being mistaken for documentation for the motocross
safety equipment.
Otherwise, great first try.

I seem to spend just enough brain cells on certain trivia to drive me
nuts. I seem to remember that a artist was once asked to prove he was
good enough for a project(I think it was the Sistine Chapel, but that is
part of what drives me nuts). The artists submitted a perfect hand drawn
circle.

They're all nice, plain and clear - very good! Logos *must* be simple,
otherwise they are graphics, not logos.
I like the 1st (and the 3rd, left side), but I think the 4th (brown) is
the best because it distinguishes itself well from the rest. It might be
a bit more difficult to have it in small printing, but it'll look fine
also in b/w or greyscale, so I'd say no. 4 is the choice.

Thank you for making this comment, I didn't realize there was more than
2 until I went back again. I then noticed there was a scroll bar to see
the others.

Glad I wasn't the only 1 =) Felt kinda of silly after reading other
comments and how there was 6 when I saw 2. Serves me right for using
inlined in Evolution
